Lost in Italy

Vicenza, Italy

“The dream came to me again last night.”

“Which one?”

“The one in Italy”

“Where?”

“It’s you, me and the baby.  We are strolling through centro Piazza dei Signori in Vicenza.”

“What happened?”

“Well, we went to market.  Everything was beautiful.  The sun was shining.  We were a happy beautiful couple just pushing the carriage.”

“Sounds like a dream”

“Kind of, but then I went into a pasteria.  I had the baby with me.  I got a cappuccino.  Then when I was leaving everyone was staring at me. Cautiously, I stepped out to the street.”

“What’s so wrong with that?”

“When I went outside, you were gone.”  She begins to cry.

“Well, I’m sure I was somewhere.  You just didn’t see me.”

Crying she shakes her head.  “No, you were missing. I sat in front of the Olympic Theatre all day, but you were nowhere.  You never came back.”

“Did you check the pasteria?”

“Yes, I went back in, but no one would speak to me.  They just kept staring at the baby.”

“Then you woke up?”

“No, I finally caught the bus for the train station.  Yet this time the bus would not stop.  It just kept driving to Piazza Matteotti to Santuario di Monte Berico, back and forth. I tried to get off the bus…it just would not stop.”

“What do you think it means?”

“I don’t know. I guess I was lost Italy.”
